Discover landscapes of rare beauty from your holiday home in Tenerife!

Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands where you can enjoy pleasant temperatures all year round. Apart from the eastern wind from the Sahara that occasionally raises the mercury, Tenerife generally has a Mediterranean climate. The north of the island is usually cooler, and the predominantly green nature in this region contrasts strongly with the southern lunar landscape. Fancy lounging by the coast from your holiday home in Tenerife? Relax on golden beaches with palm trees or cool down even more in one of the most fun water parks in Europe!

Visit the Pico del Teide volcano from your holiday home in Tenerife

The highest point of the Canary Islands—and even all of Spain—is the Pico del Teide volcano. This volcano, standing at over 3,700 meters tall, is surrounded by a characteristic lunar landscape. Hiking through the park at the base of the volcano is a unique experience, with the solitary mountain constantly in sight. There is also a cable car in the park that takes you up to over 3,500 meters. Not quite to the top, but high enough to enjoy a phenomenal view of the striking landscape and the other Canary Islands.

How do I get to the park?

Not only is the walk through the park impressive, but the drive to the cable car station is also a stunning journey. Alternatively, you can travel by bus from Puerto de la Cruz. However, it departs only once a day and returns at 3:40 PM.

Icod de Los Vinos

A picturesque town with fountains, vineyards, and a thousand-year-old tree. These are the highlights of the village of Icod de Los Vinos. Tip: visit the butterfly garden Mariposario del Drago. It’s located near the monumental dragon tree and houses an impressive collection of 800 different exotic butterflies. The views from Icod de Los Vinos are dominated by the El Teide Volcano, at whose foot the town lies.

Admire exotic vegetation in Puerto de la Cruz

In Puerto de La Cruz you'll find Jardín de Aclimatación de La Orotava, a lush garden filled mainly with tropical plant species. These exotic plants, once brought from Spanish colonies, were housed in this botanical garden to acclimate before reaching their final destination in royal gardens. Keep your camera ready as you walk past beautiful flowers and ancient trees, such as the ancient ficus tree with its eccentric trunk. Surrounded by all this vegetation, a stroll through the garden is a refreshing activity. Jardín de Aclimatación is open year-round until 6 PM.

Go hiking from your holiday home in Tenerife in Anaga Rural Park!

Contrary to what you might expect from an island near the Sahara, Tenerife is surprisingly green in some areas. For instance, Anaga Rural Park is in stark contrast with the barren, dry lunar landscape in the south. Hiking through this area guarantees a unique adventure that you shouldn't miss during your holiday in Tenerife! Traverse the green mountain ridge with its sharp contours and deep ravines, walk under laurel trees whose branches sway over the hiking trails, or pass along the lofty cliffs and typical dragon trees. Despite its pristine appearance, Anaga Rural Park is very accessible for hikers and is therefore a favorite among enthusiastic walkers. Do note that it can be significantly cooler here, so bring appropriate clothing!

Hiking tip: From the village of Chamorga, take a descending path toward Roque Bermejo. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of several rocky islets rising from the sea.

The best attractions in Tenerife

Don’t forget to alternate sightseeing and nature with some fun attractions on Tenerife. Be sure to check off the following activities during your holiday on the island:

Siam Park

Siam Park is one of the most popular water parks in Europe, featuring thrilling attractions like a super steep 28-meter-high slide or the Mekong Rapids, where you and your group glide down in a large rubber ring.

Dolphin watching at La Gomera

Also enjoy a fun sea activity: dolphin watching! From Los Gigantes in Tenerife, an excursion boat sails to the waters near the neighboring island of La Gomera, where dolphins often appear in groups. If you’re lucky, you might even spot an orca!

Parrots, red pandas, and orca shows in Loro Parque

Tenerife doesn’t only have an exciting water park, but also a real zoo with exotic animals like the red panda. This animal is a sort of large raccoon, but with red fur. However, the name “Loro” actually refers to the park’s original inhabitants: the parrots! The number of tropical parrot species in Loro Parque is truly enormous! And if you missed the orcas at sea? You can still see them up close during an orca show in this “parrot park”!

Playa de Teresitas: Tenerife’s ‘Sahara beach’

Of course, no holiday in Tenerife is complete without visiting its beaches! A great place with palm trees and a wide beach is Playa de Las Teresitas. The golden color of this beach is due to sand that was literally imported from the Sahara. So you’ll feel like you’re relaxing on a piece of desert! Another beautiful beach in Tenerife, offering excellent amenities, is Playa de Las Américas. Sun loungers under thatched parasols, ice cream stands, and shops—everything is available here. Had enough of sunbathing and swimming? Along this beach, you can also try various water sports like jet skiing.
