The Costa Blanca is a coastal region in Spain named after its many white beaches and almond blossoms. This “White Coast” is also loved for its wealth of beautiful towns and picturesque villages. Some of these villages, like Altea, are fittingly white. In addition to its endless beaches and palm-lined boulevards, the Costa Blanca is home to many authentic sights. Think of the pink salt lake of Torrevieja and the colorful fishing town of Villajoyosa!
One remarkable city on the Costa Blanca that’s well worth a visit is Elche. Not just for its historic center, but especially for the Palmeral de Elche. This park includes a massive forest of date palms, much of which is free to access. It’s even on the UNESCO World Heritage List and has the most palm trees in all of Europe! The Parque Municipal is also home to many types of palms, fountains, and sculptures. Be sure to extend your visit to the palm grove with a stroll through the town center and boulevard, where numerous cafés and restaurants await.
Altea is a gem along the Costa Blanca, much loved by tourists. The village is nearly entirely white, and visitors enjoy wandering its winding streets. A defining landmark is the cathedral with twin blue domes perched on a hill in the heart of town. Altea also boasts a lovely beach and boulevard. Another highlight is the weekly market on Calle Filarmónica, one of the largest on the Costa Blanca. From food to fashion, there's something for everyone. A hidden gem worth photographing is the Russian Orthodox Church made entirely of wood, tucked away in the surrounding hills.
In contrast to Altea’s white, Villajoyosa is all about color. This town enchants visitors with its brightly painted houses lining the boulevard and the Amadorio River. Relaxation is easy here with a beach stretching over 3 kilometers. Tip: visit the Valor chocolate museum and witness the production process. Don’t forget to sample the chocolate too!
A must-see attraction is Las Salinas, salt lakes where the water turns a vivid pink. Thanks to the high salt concentration, you’ll float effortlessly if you take a swim. The surrounding area is also inviting. Around La Mata Lake lies a nature reserve with marked paths for walking or cycling. Along the way, you'll find shaded picnic spots for a pleasant break.
Looking to hike from your holiday home while enjoying the stunning coastline? Between Benissa and Calpe lies the beautiful El Paseo Ecológico trail. It’s under 5 kilometers long, so you’ll need about an hour to walk from one town to the other. Although it's a coastal path, it features many trees providing shade on hot days.
For a truly scenic spot on the Costa Blanca, visit the mountain village of Guadalest, perched high on a steep rock. Enjoy breathtaking views of the valley and a reservoir. The village is carved into the rock, and its castle is closely intertwined with the town. Many tourists also visit the Fuentes de Algar nearby—stunning waterfalls in rocky terrain. On a hot day, it’s refreshingly cool to swim here, as the water stays below 17 degrees Celsius.
Dénia is a town full of Mediterranean charm and rich history. The marina is a beautiful sight, especially from the medieval castle El Castillo on a hilltop. Discover the town’s historical significance at the Archaeological Museum, where you can see Roman artifacts.
Combine a beach day in Dénia with visiting the scenic viewpoints along the coast of Jávea, known as Miradores de Jávea. You can also rent a bike and cycle from the port of Jávea to Dénia. For the return trip, opt for a boat ride along the cliffs of Cap de Sant Antoni. The Xabia en Bici route takes you through forest trails and to scenic spots like Montgó. On clear days, you can even see the island of Ibiza from here. Tip: stop by Restaurante Mirador de Jávea for delicious paella paired with stunning views!
